Self-care is the best present to give yourself this stressful holiday season.
If you mix in everyday stressors with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, you may start to feel that the normal stresses of life become unmanageable. It’s important to be aware, particularly during the holidays, of your emotional health and stress levels. It’s common to feel overwhelmed or undervalued when you giving your attention and energy to others, and not focusing enough on yourself.
Therapy is extremely beneficial this time of year, as it provides a space for you to focus only on you. At Urban Balance, we frequently help our clients create a unique self-care regimen to better manage challenging situations and stressors. Self-care looks different to everyone, and it’s important to create a plan that is realistic and one that you can commit to. Your self-care activities should give you energy and bring you joy!
Here are a few ideas of activities:
- Take a hot bath
- Go for a long walk
- Talk to a therapist
- Call an old friend
- Take a yoga class
- Go to the gym
- Go for a run outside
- Spend time cooking or baking
- Play with your pet
- Read a book
- Write in your journal
- Get creative! (Draw a picture, paint, color in an adult coloring book, etc.)
- Get a massage
- Get acupuncture
- Go to the movies
- Practice meditation
- Get a manicure or pedicure
- Go for a bike ride
- Treat yourself to a coffee or tea you love
