What self-care techniques or activities do you do?

Yoga, strength training, scheduled time alone.

What made you become a therapist?

Since early adolescence I have been interested in human behavior and how it’s related to family of origin issues.  It’s fascinating to discover how and why people feel  the way they do about the world and the role they play in it.

What are your specialties?

Anxiety, depression, social adaptation and working with couples.

Why do you believe that counseling can help?

In my own experience, it has been enormously helpful to be able to discuss with a professional all the things we don’t want to talk about with family and friends.  It’s important to have an objective listener who will be honest, supportive and compassionate.

Did you have a career before becoming a therapist?

I spent many years working on my education—from undergrad to post graduate training—while raising two children.  The educational piece started much later for me.  So I guess my prior “career” was wife, parent and eternal student.

Why is it important to seek counseling?

Counseling has a way of  helping us see ourselves as ordinary yet special human beings.  There is no escaping the true self.  That kind of self acceptance can eventually be quite empowering.  We eventually embrace our imperfections and become more genuine human beings.

Urban Balance prioritizes the safety of our clients and staff and will provide teletherapy counseling services.
