Maria “Cristina” Castro is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from DePaul University. She has experience providing trauma-informed care in the formats of individual and group psychotherapy with adults, adolescents, children, and families. She has worked in a variety of settings including schools, community-based counseling and emergency care. Her clinical interests include depression, anxiety, grief and loss, complex trauma, cultural and gender identity, relationship issues, and parent/child dynamics. She maintains a collaborative and integrative approach while utilizing Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Person-Centered Play, and Sand Tray Therapy. Cristina strives to create a brave and safe space in therapy by providing warmth, compassion, and empathy for clients to allow themselves to unravel their life stories and create healthier and more meaningful ones.
