Mark DeRemer is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adler University in Chicago. He has experience working with adults, adolescents, couples and families. Prior to joining Urban Balance, Mark has worked in inpatient and outpatient mental health clinics with clients suffering from PTSD, trauma, grief and loss. Mark has experience working with severe mental illness, personality disorder, anxiety and OCD, both as a therapist and client advocate. He has helped people of all ages work through trauma, depression and anxiety, as well as major life transitions. Additionally, Mark works with adults within the LGBTQ community and understands the unique challenges this population faces.
Having completed training in trauma informed treatment, Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Therapies, as well as ACT Therapy, he uses an integrated model to best meet the needs of his clients. Mark works collaboratively with clients to determine the best way to assist them, and he believes that the therapeutic relationship is a very important element in promoting change and growth.
Mark’s last position as Primary Therapist in a residential treatment center focused on eating disorders, distorted body image, body dysphoria and healing from the stressors causing the behaviors. Clients can expect a warm, non-judgmental and accepting environment and the use of compassion and mindfulness techniques as a way of improving symptoms and setting a path for a healthy and productive life.
