Shana Sexton, LCSW

Chicago – Evanston

Shana Sexton is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who sees teens and adults. Her approach to therapy, which blends cognitive behavioral and expressive methods, emphasizes meeting clients where they are and building strong therapeutic alliances. Her extensive experience with cognitive behavioral therapy includes graduate study at Washington University in Saint Louis as well as clinical experience in the mental health field beginning in 2003.

Shana has training and expertise in sand tray therapy, which allows clients to express feelings and process events using symbols and metaphor. She strongly believes in the healing benefits of creative methods, especially for clients who may find it challenging to talk through emotionally charged issues.  Shana especially enjoys working with couples to improve their relationships and has training in the Gottman method of couples therapy.  She previously worked in child welfare settings and has a particular clinical interest in processing trauma and grief work. Shana has additional past experience supporting people with intellectual disabilities and their families. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the World Association of Sand Therapy Professionals.
