Urban Balance’s CEO, Joyce Marter, says, “We were at the point we are ready to open another location in Chicago to provide insurance-friendly counseling and therapy, and are so happy to be serving this dynamic, diverse neighborhood. We are celebrating the 10-year anniversary of our Michigan Avenue headquarters this December, and are at the point we are ready to open another location in Chicago. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the office or the neighborhood.”
Marter adds that core to Urban Balance’s mission is to help create a culture where mental health is de-stigmatized and considered a normal part of health and wellness. To that end, Urban Balance is has created a group therapy practice that comprehensive in scope, as well as affordable and convenient. The practice has been recognized by Crain’s Chicago Business and is certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.
“We chose the 935 West Chestnut building in River West for its accessibility from the blue line and free parking,” Marter says of the new offices. “The loft building’s decor is urban and sophisticated and a great location for our clients.” Marter notes that every UB office handles clients mental health insurance benefits. “And we also always provide sliding scale counseling for those without health insurance.”
Speaking of the River West and Noble Square neighborhood in particular, Marter says, “We recognized a need to service the people who live here, or work in the many tech companies located nearby.” One of Urban Balance’s specialty as a practice is helping clients create work/life balance, and its counseling practices in Ravenswood and Downtown have seen their growth mainly through client referrals. “We’re proud of our success helping Chicago’s business professionals achieve their maximum success,” says Marter, who herself was selected by Crain’s Chicago Business for their “40 Under 40” list in 2010.
On the subject of opening UB’s 6th location, Marter says, “I can’t believe it’s been 10 years already at our downtown location. We’ve grown to now to having a team of over 50 therapists with various areas of expertise. We are proud to be one of the largest private practices in Chicagoland. I think our continuing commitment to choosing only the best therapists, and putting them in an environment where counseling is accessible and affordable, has been the secret to our success.”
