Urban Balance is committed to supporting causes and organizations that our therapists’ are passionate about. This month, we donated funds to Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center, an outpatient addiction treatment facility located on the West side of Chicago. UB Therapist Kiya Immergluck, PhD, LCPC provides information about Above and Beyond and the importance of the organization:
Above and Beyond is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which has no government funding and offers extensive free services to assist homeless and very poor Chicago residents dealing with addictions to drugs and alcohol with treatment and support services.
At no cost, participants are offered case management, housing, and employment guidance, as well as holistic modalities such as: yoga, meditation, art therapy, and acupuncture. On-going 12-Step and Smart Recovery Meetings are also offered.
I have been running a Support Group for alcoholics and addicts at Above and Beyond and I am very impressed with the quality of services offered and the dedication and expertise of the Staff. I’m also impressed that the clients have been so receptive to open up and share about their problems and their personal lives. I think this shows that the whole agency is geared toward treating clients with compassion and respect.
So often, I have worked at agencies that offer free or low cost services, but the facilities were often run-down and depressing. Above and Beyond is clean and beautiful. The atmosphere is safe and inviting. I don’t hesitate to send people to this facility if they are struggling financially. I’m pleased and proud to offer my support there!
