Urban Balance is committed to supporting causes and organizations that our therapists’ are passionate about. This month, we donated funds to Erika’s Lighthouse, an organization that educates the community about teenage depression.
UB Therapist Lisa Lang, LCPC provides information about Erika’s Lighthouse and the importance of the organization:
In my professional work, and in my personal relationships, have seen first hand the complete sense of helplessness families feel when a loved one is suicidal. Erika’s Lighthouse offers hope by empowering families with essential education and resources to help them navigate how best to help prevent suicide and get their loved ones the help they need to start living again.
Erika’s Lighthouse is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating and raising awareness about adolescent depression and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health problems. The organization was founded in 2004 by Ginny and Tom Neuckranz after their daughter Erika lost her life to depression. The Neuckranz family founded Erika’s Lighthouse to be a beacon of hope for the many young people who struggle with depression every day.
Erika’s Lighthouse works in collaboration with teens, parents, schools, health care professionals, and community organizations to empower families with the knowledge and skills to understand and cope with depression. Located in Winnetka, Illinois, Erika’s Lighthouse is an important resource in the Chicagoland area, providing hope, guidance and support for everyone impacted by adolescent depression.
